What is the difference between SS, Bible Study Groups and Community Groups?

How are Sunday School and Community Groups the same at FBC?  Our groups and our Sunday School classes genuinely care about one another.  We stress the importance of carrying each others' burdens.  We make functioning as a community our top priority in our SS classes, Bible study groups and community groups.  How are they different?  Our Sunday School Classes and Bible Study groups primarily focus on Biblical education while our Community Groups focus on Biblical fellowship ("doing life together").  For questions about....

How do I become a member?

We offer membership to those who have made a decision to follow Jesus Christ, have experienced baptism by immersion and have completed FBC’s membership process. If you are interested in becoming a member contact the Church office at: fbcoffice@fbcdavison.org

Dedication of Children?

Child dedication at FBC is important for the whole family which includes the greater family of God. Dedicating a child speaks to God's Lordship over the child and his/her parents.  Parents will present their child before God and the Church seeking His grace and wisdom in shepherding their child throughout his/her life.  The Church also commits to coming alongside the child's family in his/her faith development.  (Deuteronomy 6.4-7; Proverbs 22.6).  If you would like your infant/child dedicated please contact our Church office at fbcoffice@fbcdavison.org.

What about baptism?

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF BAPTISM?

1.  It illustrates Christ's burial and resurrection. (-1 Cor. 15:3-4; -Col. 2:12)

2.  It illustrates my new life as a Christian. (-2 Cor. 5:17, -Rom. 6:4, -Ephesians 2:8,9)

Baptism doesn't make you a believer - it shows that you already believe.  Baptism does not "save" you, only God's grace and your faith in Christ does that.  Baptism is like a wedding ring - it's the outward symbol of the commitment you make in your heart.

WHY DO WE BAPTIZE BY IMMERSION?

1.  Because Jesus was baptized that way. (-Matthew 3:16)

2.  Many baptism in the Bible were by immersion. (-Acts 8:38-39)

It best symbolizes a burial and resurrection!

WHO SHOULD BE BAPTIZED?

Every person who has believed in Chirst. (-Acts 2:41; -Acts 8:13; -Acts 8:12)

WHEN SHOULD I BE BAPTIZED?

As soon as you have believed. (-Acts 2:41; -Acts 8:35-38)

There is no reason to delay.  As soon as you have decided to recieve Christ into your life, you can and should be baptized.  If you wait until you are "perfect", you will never feel good enough!

CAN MY FAMILY BE BAPTIZED TOGETHER?

Yes!  If each family member understands fully the meaning of bapitsm, and each one has personally placed his/her trust in Christ for salvation, we encourage families to be baptized at the same time.  It is a wonderful expression of commitment.

However, it is important to remember that baptism is a personal statement of faith, not a family tradition.  It is usually not wise to delay your baptism while waiting on other family members to accept Christ, particulary children.  This puts an undue pressure on them, and delays your obedience.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR WHEN I AM BAPTIZED?

Women should wear shorts and a top which will preserve modesty or we offer robes to wear.  Men may wear a swimsuit and t-shirt.  Bring a change of clothes, a towel, and a plastic bag for your wet articles of clothing.  We provide changing rooms and towels.

WILL I HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY?

Prior to your baptism we will video your "story" and show that prior to your baptism.  If you would like to speak publically Pastor Chris will interview you in order to share your story of commitment to Jesus that brought you to this baptism experience.
